Wednesday....off to Montreal

HI!!! So today is the day that we go to Canada...woohoo!!! It started pretty early, we woke up around 7, and Aaron started back up on his homework. I started cleaning, and had the house spotless by 10:30ish. Pretty impressive, considering I went through a huge stack of paperwork, and shredded all of it too! Anyways, I packed while Aaron was still doing homework (I feel bad for him, because I get tired just thinking about doing all that homework, and he has to do it!!) and made some sandwiches for the road. We were supposed to leave the house by 11:30 so we didn't have to rush, but we ended up leaving around 11:45. It was pretty funny, it had snowed the night before, and they hadn't really cleared the sidewalks yet, so we were trudging as fast as we could with both of us weighted down with the bags. Aaron was carrying his backpack and the temple bags, and I was carrying our big duffle bag full of clothes and we both felt like runaway orphans! I made some hotpockets for us to eat for lunch, but left them in the microwave...oops!!! It was almost 2 miles to the bus stop, and we had about 30 minutes to make it there. It doesn't sound like very far, but in the snow carrying bags, and half of it was uphill...we both worked up a sweat by the time we were done!

So we got to the bus station and got our tickets ($108 round trip for the both of us, it was so much cheaper than gas!!) After the bus left we got a nice little nap in, and then after customs (one guy didn't make it through, so the bus driver said he would pick him back up on his way back to Vermont, poor guy!!!) Aaron started more homework and I looked out the window and tried not to get car sick. We made it to the main terminal in Montreal, and got in line to buy our subway tickets, but it was the line to get tickets to go back to Vermont! So they sent us downstairs and we went to the ATM to get cash. We stuck the debit card in the ATM, and out popped our money....in CANADIAN dollars!!! We were kind of surprised, but I guess it makes sense!!!
So we got back in line and bought our Metro pass. It was good for 3 days, and could be used for both the Metro (subway) or the bus, so it was pretty handy!!!

I figured out what bus line to get on (there were 4 to choose from) and found the right stop (there were 68 to choose from and they were all in french!!) and we made it to the hotel in about an hour. We were both starving, so we ate at the hotel restaurant, and then walked around the neighborhood for a while. They have the coolest snow blower machines!!! It's this GIANT truck thing, with a vacuum on the bottom, and it scrapes up the snow and spits it out of this huge hose at the top of the truck, so there is a semitruck that follows right along side it, and all the snow goes in the truck until its full, and then a new one comes along! It was pretty fun to watch, until we couldn't feel anything anymore. It was so cold there!!!! It makes Burlington look all warm and tropical! We went back to the hotel and relaxed for a while, Aaron did some more homework, and then off to bed!

Enjoyed your comments about your trip to Canada. Sounds like a lot of fun. I appreciated being about to talk to Aaron last night and just knowing you are all doing great and had a great temple experience. Keep up the good work and good luck with all that homework!!! Love ya - Grampy
