The trip out East

There are so many pictures that I took that I can't post every single one but here are some fun ones. This way our first place to stop, Evanston. We looked at the old train yard and the old train depot. It was pretty cool.

We also saw this old English telephone booth. It was just in the middle of the depot yard. There was a sign that said it had been transferred from England to Evanston...pretty neat.

This was the start of our trip on Wednesday morning. Savannah got the first turn at sleeping so I did the driving. On the way, I saw this sign that said State Prison. I thought it would be fun to look around. Savannah woke up as I was pulling off the freeway and asked where we were going. I told her it was a surprise. As we pulled up in front of this building (which was in use from 1870 until 1980) I told her that she had been bad and that I was going to take her to jail and leave her there. Her response....it looks cool!

This is me (as if you couldn't tell) in one of their cell blocks. Yes, they actually locked it and I couldn't get out. It was very small and cramped. Amazing that they put two people in each cell.

Hmmm....what is this? It's the gas chamber! Doesn't she look like a criminal who committed a crime that deserves capital punishment? I actually asked if we could shut the door but was told no. They had an incident where a Boy Scout troop was actually locked into the death penalty jail cells and couldn't get out. The fire department had to come out and rescue them. Since that time they are not allowed to shut they doors!
