Carthage

Next our on way out of town was to stop at Carthage, Illinois. This is where the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were murdered.

The door which was fired through and still contains the bullet marks.

This is the room where the murders took place.  Hyrum was shot in the face and killed.  John Taylor and Willard Richards were also shot at in this room.  Joseph jumped onto the window sill to draw attention away from these two men, was struck twice from inside, once from outside, and then fell dead outside the window.

The second story window is where the Prophet Joseph Smith was struck from.  He landed outside after he had been shot dead.
