Saturday was a very busy day. We went to Palmyra and did a lot of touring. We went to the Book of Mormon Publication Site, the Joseph Smith Farm, the Sacred Grove, the Palmyra Temple, and the Hill Cumorah.
The sign pointing the way. When we were in the Book of Mormon publication site, it started to pour down rain. When we got to the Sacred Grove, they had closed it down due to the rain and thunder and lightening. We did the tour of the buildings and by that time the rain had slowed down. The sister missionary said it would be okay for us to go into the Grove, but if the rain started again, to leave immediately. Since Savannah and Heidi had already been to the Grove (and were getting very hungry), we all spent a few minutes then they took off to find food while I stayed and looked around.
Here we are in the middle of the Sacred Grove.
Here is the front of the Palmyra Temple.
Savannah and I were able to do a session at the temple. It is built just like the Montreal temple and is very beautiful. In the celestial room is a stained glass window of the Sacred Grove that faces the Grove. It is quite marvelous.
This is the Hill Cumorah. Savannah says she knows now why the plates were not found for hundreds of years. Nobody wanted to climb up this hill. It was a bit of a hike (in our Sunday clothes), but we did make it to the top.
At the top of the hill is a statute of Moroni.
