Today is an important day. It is the day which we get to honor our Father's. From the principles that we learn Jesus Christ and from His modern prophets, we understand the roles that fathers have, which include being: teachers, temporal providers, and most importantly, leading the family "with the assistance and counsel and encouragement of your eternal companion" (L. Tom Perry, April General Conference, 2004).
"One of the most important means by which Satan can corrupt and deceive the children of men is through the traditions of their fathers. If these traditions are corrupt and lead to evil rather than righteousness, then the evil one has a powerful tool to corrupt the children, for they usually follow the traditions of their parents" (James Duke, November Ensign, 1972). We learn from the Book of Mormon that this is the truth. The Lamanites were in a state of wickedness because their fathers had not taught them about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our fathers have taught us in the ways of the Lord. They have taught us the correct gospel principles and then let us make the choices that will one day either lead us to our eternal salvation. We want our fathers to know how much we love and appreciate all that they do (and have done) for us. It is especially true when we have traveled all across the country engaging in new experiences. Our fathers have always supported us in our endeavors and always wished the best. I believe that this is symbolic to our Heavenly Father. He wants us to be happy and continues to watch over us.
Aaron: My dad has many great qualities. One of them is he has always been the one to make sure that there is a record of our family moments. Wherever we may be, he had a camera and was sure to capture it. I am glad now that we get to enjoy those memories.
Savannah: My dad is the sweetest man I've ever met! He is funny, hard working, loving, and a good napper :). I am glad that he picked me to be his daughter because my life would be not nearly as fabulous if he hadn't.
We love you Dad(s)! Happy Fathers Day!
