Fun Adventures with my Mom

What an exciting week.  My mom came to visit for Labor Day weekend!  She flew into town on Thursday and we had a whirlwind of a trip planned (which included lots of food stops)!  Thursday night we took her to Jack's Stack BBQ and ordered enough food for an army.  On Friday, we went to the Temple and then headed to Adam-Ondi-Ahman.  It was supposed to be a nice cool day, but instead we got a heat wave.  It was a nice and steady 95!  We had a picnic style lunch and then walked around.  What else are you supposed to do there?  Then we headed to Haun's Mill, Far West, and Richmond.  It was nice to see all the Church history sites again.  For dinner, we went to Unforked which is a local burger joint.  On Saturday, we went to the Santa Cali Gon days festival.  It was probably 100 degrees.  We had prepared just a little better and brought a lot more water!  It was still really hot and humid.  Since the festival was in Independence, we also stopped at the Church of the Temple Lot (which I have been wanting to see forever) and then went to the Church of Christ temple as well.  For dinner, we hit up our favorite Mexican joint, Dos Reales!  Sunday was a nice church day and then we went to Liberty to visit the Historic Jail.  It was a nice relaxing day.  Did I mention that we had good food?  In case I didn't, we did!!  I know that there are no pictures for this post, but as I soon as I get them from my mom, I will update this blog so everyone can enjoy.

Savannah's working, so I am cooking!

Savannah has the best work schedule in the entire world.  She works at nights and on the weekends.  In case you were not aware, I work during the day.  Basically, we do not get to see each other.  I've been pestering her to turn in her notice and she finally decided to listen.  Now only a few more weeks of this being apart crap.  In the meantime, since Savannah works at nights, I have been perfecting my cooking skills.  Please see the pictures below of the creations which I have been making.  First, we see some swordfish.  I love fish, but my wife doesn't.  Second, we see a barbecue chicken pizza along with a cheese pizza.  Savannah likes pizza on occasion.  Then we have alfredo sauce, pasta, and baked chicken.  She absolutely loves chicken.  So, you see we went in progression and by the end of the week had something that would make working all the time at least part way worth it.

The 1st week in July

Savannah and I had lots of work for this 1st week in July.  We did make it worthwhile though by eating at a place called Houlihans.  It had to have the best steak ever! I had the KC strip and Savannah had the filet mignon.  I think it may make our places to visit when we have guests.  Thursday was the 4th of July and while I had it off, Savannah had to work.  I took her some dinner and on my way, I saw this deer by our apartment.  Also, we got our carpets cleaned on Friday.  We have been trying new juices and fish as well.  I cooked some swordfish (which was amazing), but Savannah doesn't like a "fishy fish".  I ended up eating her dinner as well.  The weather actually got to 100, but ended up cooling off by the weekend.

Spoons and Chicken Soup

For those of you who say most posting a few months ago on the donut trail, you will understand this post.  If not, you should go back and read that one first and then read this.

I have been craving some good chicken noodle soup and I know that my wife makes a tasty batch.  I must have been hinting (what she refers to as nagging) because I came home from work one day and found this:

And then I found this note that said -

Who could deny that request?!?

I love you Savannah!

Italian Buffet

Then came Friday night...with all the fun places to eat, Savannah and I have a hard time determining what we should try next.  So, we drove around and finally settled on a place called Cinzettis. It is an all you can eat Italian buffet. Savannah liked the idea of the 16 flavors of ice cream.  Well, this place had a 20 minute wait, okay that's fine....wait....wait....wait...finally I was fed up with waiting and went to ask when it was going to be our turn.

The "nice" hostess said "well I paged you and you never came, so we moved on".  I calmly replied "oh, our buzzer never went off", she said "yes it did, were you sitting outside?"; in my nice kind voice informed her that we were inside the entire time waiting and that "she was wrong and our buzzer never did go off."  She promptly took the buzzer out of my hand and punched the digits into her control panel........oh wait.....it didn't go off. She then commented that "it must be defective".  Wow, thanks.  I didn't move.  She looked at me and I said "when are we going to be seated since our buzzer never went off." She took her radio and said "I need a table, the customer is up front looking at me".  See, if you are polite, things will happen and I didn't even threaten to call a manager (but I should have!)

Since it was our first time, we were given the tour and told all about the food.  Then we were told to enjoy!  The food was really good and we really liked the atmosphere.  For dessert, Savannah had her 16 scoops of ice cream and I got a banana strawberry crepe.  If anyone ever visits, we will take you there!

Treasures in Kansas

I think this says enough, yes?

Savannah had been craving some donuts, so right before I picked her up from work, I went to Krispy Kreme and laid out all the donuts as you see above.  We walked up the stairs and I told Savannah that she needed to go in first.  She walked in and almost stepped on the donuts!
